KEYNOTE: BOB TIEDE — 'THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION'
Bob Tiede presented via Zoom — the club's first Zoom speaker. Bob was on staff at CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ) for 54 years and worked with Josh McDowell for 24 years. He has been on the U.S. Leadership Development Team since 2004 (22 years). On his bookshelf is a plaque that reads: LISTEN & SILENT have the same letters — Coincidence?
Bob's Philosophy on Asking Questions
Bob observed that people prefer workplaces where they feel known and valued — where even the boss knows their name. Through examples and interaction with club members, he demonstrated how questions unlock meaning, drive solutions, and build genuine relationships.
Key Quotes from the Presentation
• 'If you ask no questions, you get no answers at all.'
• 'What would be the ideal solution long-term?' — his favorite fog-clearing question
• 'Telling creates resistance. Asking creates relationships.'
• 'I never learn anything talking. I only learn things when I ask questions.' — Lou Holtz
• 'You don't have to have all the answers. But what's not negotiable is that you have the questions.'
